Under what conditions Computer Science, touchscreen and pen-oriented devices and HCI can help for :
1-Graphomotor behaviors understanding,
2-Handwriting skills evaluation,
3-Handwriting teaching
3-Detection of kid's handwriting learning difficulites?
My work try to answer such question thanks to :
- development of acquisition systems that take advantage of technological evolutions
- theory and paradigms that define new spaces* to capture and represent information on Human handwriting actvity and its results
- definition of features extraction algorithms in these spaces of representation of handwriting
- experimental studies of the relevance of features extracted by these algorithms to help to augment knowledge and to improve decision making in each of these Human practice fields.
*Interdependant spatio-temporal, spatio-graphic, dynamic, procedural, kinematic and sigma-lognormal dimensions of handwriting traces that can be taken into account thanks to online acquisition and preprocessing f handwriting.
Each of these dimensions of representation can enhance or reduce information available for handwriting processing. According to the dimension that is considered raw extracted features are quantitative or/and structural.
Note that other applications like characterization of movement patterns, procedural analysis of drawing, spatio-graphic quantization of similarieis between handwritten productions or writer’s identification are also possible with such approach.
